Ridex® Miter Rails for Moveable Bridges

The RIDEX® miter rail system solves your moveable track joint problems.
The
RIDEX® miter rail system also known as the rider rail system is an
improved miter rail system for use in moveable track arrangements such
as bridges of all types, folding cranes, etc. The system features large
expansion capabilities, ease of maintenance and standardized parts.
Description: The system components are rider rail, lift rail, fixed rail, and rail plates and impact pads.
The lift rails and fixed rails are
machined from lengths of new rail. One end of each rail is machined to
fit the rider rail segment and holes are drilled for web bars and track
bars. Web bars are bolted to the rails at the rider rail end to provide
additional support of the rail head. All bolting is self locking to
prevent loosening in service. The lift rail has a guide block to assure
proper alignment at closure.
The rider rail segment bridges the gap
between the lift and fixed rails. It is made of hardened alloy steel
for longer service life. The rider rail is slightly lower than the
running rail at it's ends and slightly higher than the running rail at
it's center. This gentle radius serves to smoothly carry the train
wheel over the gap between the rails. The rider rail is bolted to the
fixed rail and remains stationary.
The rail plates are fabricated and
machined from steel plate. They include grooves for the rail foot and
holes for bolting to the ties. The grooves are machined with a slant
toward track center. Shoulders are provided adjacent to the groove for
Pandrol "E" clips to fasten the rail to the rail plates. The fixed rail
plate also has a guide shoe to guide the lift rail into position at
closure.
Under each rail plate is an impact pad for vibration damping and shock absorption.
The gap between the lift and fixed rails
is generally set at several inches depending on bridge configuration
and temperature at installation. The expansion capabilities are quite
large (+ or - several inches) thus eliminating the need for expansion
joints on bridge approaches and reducing maintenance due to track
movement. The maintenance of the rider rail system is simple. As the
rider rail wears, it is easily replaced without affecting other
components of the system.
The rider rail system can be used on all
types of moveable bridges. The system as shown is for lift and bascule
bridges. The swing bridge system has longer lift rail plates with guide
shoes and openings to accommodate the rail lift mechanism. Additional
holes in the rail plates are added for rail down signal switches.
